Summer: Approach your business with the enthusiastic spirit as you do with summer plans

Summer = Business

Make plans and expect change

Ah, summer – the season of warmth, sunshine, and endless possibilities!  I’m planning a trip to Potter County, PA which has the darkest skies on the eastern seaboard.  My son and his girlfriend want to see the milky way.  I haven’t seen it since our family trips out west when I was a kid.  I made sure we planned it during a new moon so we can get the most out of the dark sky.  I’m so excited to being out on the lawn staring up at the stars.  Of course, their next thought was - what are we doing during the day?  Uh oh - more planning! Hikes, exploring, chilling out - all on the schedule!

That had me thinking…  Summer planning shares a surprising connection with running a business. It might sound unusual, but when you take a closer look, you'll find that summer and entrepreneurship have more in common than you'd expect. No, I haven’t had too many orange crushes (in Maryland, IYKYK).  Hear me out…

The Power of Planning

Just like planning a fun day at the beach or the summer vacation, running a business involves creating a roadmap for success.  We plan our summer activities to make the most of the sunny days. From picnics in the park to seeing the stars, a bit of thoughtful planning ensures we enjoy every moment.  As entrepreneurs, we strategize to achieve our goals. Intentional business planning ensures that we are getting the most out of our business.

Setting Sail Towards Goals

I think just about everyone sets ambitious goals for summer. It could be learning to surf, finishing that book series you love, or simply taking time to unwind. In business, we set ambitious goals to achieve greatness. Dream big!  Entrepreneurs achieve what we set out to achieve so if those goals are small, we won’t reach the greatness we’re capable of (and we’re capable of so much more than we think!).

Embracing Change

Summer brings with it an air of spontaneity and adventure. Whether it's a sudden rainstorm or a last-minute invitation to a beach party, being open to change makes our summer experiences richer and more memorable. Successful entrepreneurs embrace change to stay ahead.  Like vacationers, we adapt to unexpected opportunities.  Whether it’s a new opportunity or a pivot, being adaptable in business allows us to take advantage of our resources for maximum benefit.

As we soak up the warm rays of summer, let's remember to apply this same free, ambitious spirit to running our businesses. Embrace the joy of planning, adapt to change with enthusiasm, and set sail towards fun goals. Here's to a summer filled with happiness and success not only for you but for your business as well!
